Expressive Abstract Paintings

Each work in the Artist of Life series explores places as fields of living energy—where perception, motion, and atmosphere converge. These paintings do not describe place as fixed form. Instead, they trace the forces that shape experience: the unseen currents, the shifting light, and the subtle thresholds where awareness expands. Rather than depicting specific spaces, the paintings operate in the space between observation and experience. To engage with the work is to enter a dynamic relationship with place and limitless possibilities—one where what is seen becomes a glimpse of the unfolding “now.” To schedule an in person studio visit to view or purchase current paintings, please email kenhubbell@kenhubbell.com.

Art historian Shana Nys Dambrot, who selected my Abiquiu work for a 2024 juried exhibit at the Brand 52nd Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper in California, wrote, “It was both quite accurate and very interpretive and it really gave the landscape a sort of fantasy dimension…It has a lot of feeling in it that seems like impressions of the experience at another level beyond observation…It reached beyond representation and into something more substantial, something personal.
