Communications

At Ken Hubbell and Associates, we use graphic design and creativity in all of our work. Sometimes, our clients specifically seek communications solutions. For them, we create interactive and print materials (including DVDs, screen savers, maps, annual reports, visual displays, and websites) that are used in external and internal communications. Even when the end result of our work is a diagram or a map, we provide much more than design services. We conduct research and evaluation in order to develop content and respond to organizations' and audiences' needs, we engage our clients in the process of developing materials to build their capacity, and we evaluate the success of communications efforts with quantitative and qualitative research.

Since 1996, our firm has been developing website content and online architecture for nonprofit groups. We help our clients use the web to build community, creating "extranets" to enable participants, consultants, and supporters to regularly participate in online communities.

We also produce CDs and documentary videos that capture the planning and learning processes through which we take our clients. These tools enable our clients to reflect on their experiences more thoroughly and to share their learnings with others both inside and outside of their organizations.

Can we help you build an online community for your organization or grantee network? Do you need creative solutions for your nonprofit's communication challenges? If so, contact Meredith Melody or Ken Hubbell at (501) 372-1716 or send an email to kenhubbell@kenhubbell.com.

Here are some examples of the communications services that we have provided for our clients:

  • Ken Hubbell and Associates serves as the "communications hub" for the Kellogg Foundations' Mid South Delta Initiative, designing, producing and distributing electronic and print newsletters, impact reports and county-specific maps portraying the activities and outputs of grantees' work in the region; creating and updating the Mid South Delta Initiative website; and convening regional communications conferences. For this Initiative, we manage a password-protected online learning community of 15 coaches and consultants and members of 22 grantee organizations. We also teach community volunteers how to use the web to document and communicate about community change work.

  • Our firm developed the Master Plan for the Mosaic Templars Center for African American Culture and Business Enterprise. As part of the community engagement process and communications campaign for the new center, KHA provided the total site architecture and web content for the Mosaic Templars Building Preservation Society and used the site as an online searchable database for historic photos and publications related to African American history in Little Rock. Currently, we are engaged in a two-year oral history project centered on African American history and culture in Little Rock. This project will culminate in an interactive educational DVD that Ken Hubbell and Associates will design and distribute to educational facilities throughout the state. The research will also result in some of the first exhibit work for the Center.

  • The W. K. Kellogg Foundation's Food Systems and Rural Development (FSRD) program has provided grants to more than 400 organizations since 1991. Ken Hubbell and Associates synthesized FSRD documents to extrapolate from grantee's work the key themes of the Food Systems and Rural Development program and designed a series of graphics representing FSRD's integrated theory of change based on the themes identified.

  • Ken Hubbell and Associates developed a website for the Delta Compact, a large regional collaborative in the Mid South composed of nonprofit housing groups, municipal governments, federal and state agencies, and foundation. This effort was funded by Fannie Mae Foundation.
